The keys to creating a successful website

Step 4: Selling Online

Selling Online is completely different to selling anywhere else.

On average visitors to a website take three seconds to look at your site and decide weather it is worth their time or not.

Make it easy.
If people are looking to buy something from your website, they only want to use three clicks of the mouse to buy what they want, as quickly and as easily as possible. Any more than three clicks and the chances of making a sale have severely diminished.

If you are selling something then make sure your customers can easily buy it by clearly giving them the instructions on how to do so. This will increase your sales from impulse buyers especially if you have an email order form or a shopping cart and secure online payment facility on your site. This would also save you a lot of time and money that would usually be involved in such sales.

Paypal has free shopping cart and secure payment facilities making it the cheapest way to sell online. Paypal is similar to any merchant account where a fee is charged for each payment received. It is like having a separate bank account and you can transfer your Paypal funds directly into your bank account when you wish.

Be direct and to the point.
Use small powerful sentences at the start of the page to grab their attention. You can use longer paragraphs and more details further down the page and if you have succeeded in getting a persons attention they will continue to read the page.

Think like your customers. What do they want?
Pretend to be one of your customers. If you think you would like to see a sample picture of a product then make sure you put it on your site. All the questions you get asked in your daily business must be answered on your website, otherwise it's not going to save you time and it could well make things worse.

Your website is always online so you want people to visit there as often as possible. Step 5 will explain how to bring your visitors back for more.

Step 5: Return Customers
